The locking ring makes accessories sit more firmly and gives less movement during use. This provides a better experience and makes it easier to adjust accessories, such as vario nozzle.
Is the locking ring stuck?
If it has been tightened too much, or a change in temperature has caused it to expand into a position where you are unable to loosen it, then the solution is often simply to hold the ring in place with a tool of some kind (such as a clamp or vice) and then twist. The ring is stronger than it looks, and is a fairly simple part to replace if the worst does happen.
You can also try running the ringed section under warm water to cause it to thermally expand and become easier to screw back out.
The locking ring should not be tightened much during normal use, but screwed lightly against the accessory, until it stops naturally.
When you wash, dirt quickly accumulates in places you don't want. This dirt can also cause trouble with the locking ring, however this is usually solved by giving the affected area a good clean.
Lock ring goes round and round?
The locking ring must then be replaced. Check that the threads on the gun or lance itself are intact.
